Low's Lookout

Walking Mountain Biking0.6 kmEasyOne-way

A short but rewarding walk in the heart of Coolum, leading to one of the Sunshine Coast's best-kept secrets. Lows Lookout offers breathtaking 360-degree scenic views, making the climb well worth the effort.

SUITABLILITY

If you're spending time in Coolum and want to discover a hidden viewpoint away from the beach, this short adventure delivers big rewards.

Start at Scrub Road opposite Point Perry and Wilkinson Park and follow the pathway uphill toward Grandview Drive. A newly constructed 74m trail section winds through natural bushland terrain, providing an alternative off-road route and adding a sense of adventure to the journey.

Along the way, keep an eye out for native vegetation and unique natural features, including a remarkable strangler fig entwined around a brush box tree.

The trail includes numerous steps before reconnecting with Grandview Drive for the final approach to the lookout. Please be mindful of traffic on this short section.

At the summit, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views across Coolum Beach, the coastline and Sunshine Coast hinterland. A picnic table provides the perfect place to pause and take in the scenery.

You'll also discover local history, including the site's connection to Toboggan Hill, which was used for tobogganing in the 1920s, and indigenous history relating to The Belly Stone.

Once you've caught your breath, head back down the same path.

Afterwards

Reward yourself with a coffee, cool drink or meal at one of Coolum's many cafes and restaurants, or enjoy lunch at the Coolum Surf Club.

For those wanting to explore further, the Point Perry boardwalk is a must-see attraction. You can also connect with the coastal pathway network and continue south toward Point Arkwright.

How to get there

To the starting point:

Scrub Road runs directly off David Low Way. Parking is available along David Low Way, at Point Perry Reserve, Wilkinson Park and nearby public parking areas.

Walk to the start of the trail at Scrub Road opposite Point Perry and Wilkinson Park.

To the end point:

The end point is the same as the starting point.

Accessibility guide

The approach along Grandview Road is very steep in both directions, unmarked, with limited visibility around corners and no sealed path. At the lookout itself a well-maintained sealed path leads to a shelter and bench with views over the Coolum coastline. Accessible parking is available at Low Point Lookout or across the road at Wilkinson Park; the path up from Wilkinson Park may need assistive technology.
