Highlights
This is a popular recreational ride, walk or run for many locals. Linking the two hinterland townships of Woombye and Palmwoods, the paths provides users with a safe and sealed track. The hilly hinterland stretch makes this a perfect workout for those wishing to increase their fitness levels, or maximise their time exercising. The ride beings and ends in the heart of both towns, providing ample parking, and access to amenities, water and shade. Don’t forget to take in the views of the Blackall Range, which is particularly beautiful late afternoon as the sun is setting. For those who wish to extend the ride, continue following the pathways through Palmwoods and around the township.
Afterwards
Spend some time in Woombye or Palmwoods and support one of the many local establishments. Both towns are unique in character and offer visitors a warm welcoming experience, including access to several parks such as Piccabeen or Federation Park in Palmwoods, or CWA Park in Woombye. Major regional attractions including the Big Pineapple and Wildlife HQ ore also in short driving distance, as are a few other hinterland towns.
How to get there
To the starting point: The township of Woombye is located off the Bruce Highway, west of Maroochydore. Take the Nambour Connection Road exit off the Bruce Highway, and travel east for approximately 5 minutes before you see the sign to Woombye. Turn left into Blackall Street, the main street of Woombye. The official start point is on the corner of Hill Street, opposite the Woombye School of Arts (centre of town).
To the end point: The end point is the same as the starting point.
Accessibility guide
Not suitable for wheelchairs unless motorised. The path inclines steeply in sections, narrows to 80cm in places with kerb ramps that do not meet the road smoothly, and includes short 5-10m stretches at about 20%. Accessible bays are in Hill Street and Blackall Street, Woombye. For motorised wheelchair users the walk ends at Rick's Garage in Palmwoods, as the continuation into Piccabean Park has several steep steps.
This walk starts in Hill Street, Woombye, where there is an accessible parking bay outside a colourful toilet block. There is additional accessible parking bay in the main street (Blackall Street).
You then cross the street and turn left. Once past the shops and across another street, the path inclines. There are sections where this incline is steep, making it impassable without mechanical assistance.
The path narrows in places down to 80 cm and several kerb ramps do not offer a smooth transition with the road. This path continues in this condition for some time, until you turn onto Pine Grove Road, the track then continues and follows the gently winding Woombye Palmwoods Road, providing a mix of shaded areas beneath tall trees and more open stretches with views of the rolling hills and lush countryside.
The track is paved with a width ranging from 80cm to 3 metres in places and has a mix of flat sections with some inclines ranging from gentle to steep (some short sections, 5-10 metre are at a 20% incline), making it not suitable for wheelchairs unless motorised.
The walk takes you into the town of Palmwoods where you cross the street outside Rick's Garage. This is where the walk will end for those using a motorised wheelchair. The walk continues around the corner into Little Main Street and Piccabean Park, however this is not accessible for wheelchair users due to several steep steps.
Along the way, you'll pass through areas of natural bushland, with native flora and fauna adding to the tranquil atmosphere. The sound of birds chirping and the rustling of leaves in the breeze create a peaceful backdrop to your walk. There are occasional glimpses of local farms and rural properties, which add to the picturesque quality of the journey.
- There is an accessible parking bay at the start of the walk in Hill Street. There are also accessible parking bays along the main Street (Blackall Street).
- There is a toilet block in Hill Street at the start of the walk, however the accessible toilet is not accessible without assistance due to the type and slope of the ramp.
- There are places to sit along the newly renovated street.
- A Right-hand push-button water fountain, with a dog water fountain is located at the start of the walk.
- There are cafes and shops located in Woombye and Palmwoods.
If you're looking for a meal or a coffee, stay and enjoy Palmwoods. There are accessible parking spaces along the main street. Several cafes and eateries, including the famous Ricks Garage serve excellent meals for lunch or dinner. It's a great way to conclude your Woombye to Palmwoods walk.

After arriving in Woombye by bus & morning tea at bakery, Chris the lovely librarian at the Arts Centre told us the best track to Palmwoods. From the butcher shop head towards the water tower (about 2klm) a bit of this is on the roadside but then after turning right at the water tower the path is lovely all the way for approx 3 klm to Palmwoods. After lunch at Ricks Garage we came back to Caloundra by train to landsborough & bus to Caloundra. A great way to spend the day.
Good walk from Woombye to Palmwoods. Yummy brekky at The Cocoa Tree before return walk back to Woombye. We did initially start down by railway track thinking path followed but found our way to path that virtually runs parallel to Nambour Connection Road. 😄
