Maleny Trail to Reynolds Crossing

Walking Cycling3.3 kmIntermediateOne-way 4

Enjoy this longer section of the tree-lined Maleny Trail that hugs Obi Obi Creek.

Suitability

Suitable for walkers, mostly suited to prams and wheelchairs and recreational cyclists – a few steps and water to negotiate at the end near Reynolds Crossing if you actually want to cross over.

Highlights

Also known as the Peace in the Trees Sculpture Walk, it features many inspirational art works sculpted by local artists, inviting people to contemplate and reflect on the natural environment - a unique community endeavour

Maleny town has lots of character, with an alternative bent. The Maleny town trail is a pretty excursion along Obi Obi Creek, from the heart of town out past the golf course and then around Reynolds Crossing circuit.

The walk starts on the wide boardwalk near Woolworths, then along a smooth paved rolling section beside an estate, suitable for some wheelchairs.

Most of the trail is currently being re-vegetated with over 54,000 trees planted to date on a 126 hectare former farm. There is some traffic noise, but after crossing the golf course there is a lovely wide natural part through woods above the creek.

The Reynolds Crossing Circuit is short but with steps. Take off your shoes to cross Obi Obi creek for a swim at Gardners Falls. It is possible to return to town via roads.

When walking by the creek make sure you keep your eye out for platypus. At other times, keep your eye out for wayward golf balls and Electric fences (signed)

Afterwards

There are picnics places and bush toilets at Gardners Falls and a number of popular swimming holes.

If you want to have a varied walk on your way back stay on the same side of the creek and do a loop around Maleny Golf Course, taking Obi Lane and Porters Lane to reconnect to the cement section of the trail.

The Spicers Tamarind resort and restaurant are across the creek near Gardners Falls and just down Obi Lane South – for when you have a special occasion to celebrate. There are also many fine cafes and restaurants at Maleny.

How to get there

To the starting point: Head to the roundabout at the junction of Maple, Coral and Bunya Streets and find a car park close by. The walk starts about 10 metres from the roundabout on the same side of the road as Woolworths, on the creek bank opposite – you can’t miss the boardwalk.

To the end point: The end point being the same as your starting point. You can make this an out and back trip or a circular trip by returning via roads.

Nice track, we have seen Platypus once, one carpet python, one green tree snake and one red belly black snake at various sites to the side of the track on different days - keep an eye out and you might get to see one. Very magestic to watch from a distance.

Despite the number of weeds I really enjoyed walking this track. It would be great for bird watchers as there is ample bird life and various other critters about.
