Noosa National Park. Sunshine Beach Section to Alexandria Bay

Walking2.1 kmIntermediateOne-wayDogs prohibited 5

Follow this forest trail to Alexandria Beach – and all the way to Hells Gate if you want. It’s a serene and green route to the coast.

Suitability

Suitable for walkers with some experience and confidence in the bush.

Highlights

Step into the peace and tranquillity of the southern section of Noosa National Park. After some cool canopy cover, the trail gently winds through sandy heath covered hills with occasional extended views, then down over a pretty reedy creek crossing and up over a wooded rise to the pristine sandy beach.

This track is signed and takes you down to Alexandria Bay, warning naturalists like to use this beach so be aware if bringing the family. This is a beautiful stretch of beach with no patrols, only an emergency radio.

What’s great about this trail is it gives you fast and uncrowded access into Noosa National Park from the Sunshine Beach side, (easier parking) and is also ideal ] if you want to make a big loop from the Surf club and shops at Sunshine. At certain times of year the hills is covered with fresh banksia flowers which attract the birds.

It’s a beautiful part of the park. Be at one with nature as you walk the trails that have been walked for centuries – millennia – by indigenous aboriginal families. Enjoy!

Afterwards

There are numerous tracks branching off this one, for example to Hells Gate, with other signage to be found in the park. There is also a little loop over and around the southern rocky point.

The strip at Sunshine Coast has many wonderful dining options and the view from the Surf Club has to be experienced (more than once!).

How to get there

To the starting point: Park in Parkedge Road, Sunshine Beach, between Surf Street and Bryan Street. To get here if heading south from Noosa Junction, take Solway Drive (first turn on your left just after the park). Alternatively turn take the road to Sunshine Beach at the Sunshine Beach Roundabout. Follow Hill Street as it bcomes Henderson Street. Turn right at the roundabout when you get to the Sunshine Shops stril and then take the first left up Bryan Street and follow that around till it hits Parkedge Road, which borders the park.

To the end point: The end point is the same as your starting point.

I love this walk, especially if you go all the way to Hell's Gates! A few challenging hills and a nice easy beach walk makes it perfect for a Sunday afternoon workout!

Really well maintained trails in a stunningly beautiful part of the world. My favourite is to link this track with the coastal, hill and interior tracks at Noosa National Park to create a 15km + trail running circuit with a mixture of quiet, natural bushland, superb coastal views, sandy beaches (watch out for sparsely clothed people around Alexandria Bay!) ... then top off the outing with an ocean dip! Perfect!
